On Wednesday 6 December we officially marked the commencement of works at Melbourn Primary School with a ground breaking ceremony. Joined by teachers, governors, council members and the project team everyone gathered on the school playground to hear a few words from the Headteacher, Stephanie Wilcox, and Operations Manager, Richard Heyes, and a poem written by one of the school’s teachers, before cutting the sod and retiring to the staff room for tea and cake.
This is the second time Kier Construction Eastern are working on Melbourn Primary School. In 2010 Kier constructed a new hall, kitchens and offices and refurbished existing classroom areas. This time the project involves the expansion of existing facilities from 1.5FE to 2FE. This will include the reconfiguring and expansion of the school to include four new class bases, with associated cloakrooms/wc/store facilities, a small hall/studio, extensions to the admin/staff and community kitchen facilities opposite the hall and ICT/library spaces will be pulled back into the heart of the school.
