On 17 October the Kier Waterside site team played an 11-a-side friendly football match against our Client, the University of Northampton.
Not having played together before it was decided to have a training session at Goals in Northampton where the team played in a 6-a- side format. It became apparent pretty quickly that some of our team members could do with a bit more fitness although thankfully everyone was still breathing and just about standing up at the end.
The game itself was played on the new 3G pitch on the Waterside campus and it was a tight affair. The game flowed well, the teams were evenly matched and it was competitive but fair, making for a friendly match; no referee needed. After 90 minutes the score was 5-4 to the University and our boys tried to force the equaliser, but were caught on the break making the final score 6-4.
Both Kier and the UoN team enjoyed the match tremendously, so much so that a rematch has been agreed, but not until all our players have recovered enough to play another 90 minutes.
